Mary Buhrman
January 17, 1934 - October 23, 2025
Mary Buhrman, 91, of Grand Island, NE, died Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Tiffany Square Care Center. Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Robin Bashir and Rev. Donald A. Buhrman will concelebrate. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be before the funeral mass from 9 to 10 a.m. with a rosary recited at 10 a.m. at the church. Growing up, Mary Ellen, as she was known to her immediate family and Mother Mary by her husband, Harold, was born January 17, 1934 in Grand Island, NE. She was the daughter of Paul and Lola (Gustin) Graham. She grew up in Grand Island graduating from Grand Island Sr. High School in 1952. She received a scholarship to the University of Nebraska, instead she married Harold Buhrman on April 11, 1953 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. They made their home on the family farm Harold grew up on in St. Libory, NE later moving to Grand Island. They had three children, Randy, Sandy, and Andy. Mary worked at the Ordinance Plant, 30 years as a waitress at Dreisbach's, and later worked as a lunch lady for Grand Island Public Schools, retiring at the age of 80 years young. Harold died in March of 2007.
Mary was an excellent cook, she was especially known for her pies, desserts, and her infamous Christmas cookies. She loved to travel treasuring the cruises she sailed on, including reciting her vows with Harold on their 50th wedding anniversary, in the company of her immediate and extended family. She skillfully crafted heirloom Christmas stocking for each of her kids and grandkids. She loved auctions, playing cards, and watching her grandchildren grow up.
Mary moved to Doniphan, NE to live at Prairie Winds Assisted Living until her health declined at which time she moved to Tiffany Square. The family so appreciated the care Mary received at St. Francis Skilled Care, Tiffany Square, and the guidance given by Brookstone Hospice.
Mary will be missed by her children, Sandy Buhrman of Grand Island, NE, Andy (Vicky) Buhrman of Wood River, NE; daughter-in-law, Kay Buhrman of Omaha, NE; sister, Norma Heuermann of Grand Island, NE; grandchildren, Chris Buhrman, Chad Buhrman, Nicholas (Lisa) Buhrman, Jessica (Bret) Renz, Matt (Caitlyn) Czaplewski; great-grandchildren, Hailey Buhrman, Tristen Buhrman, Madalyn Renz, Treyton Renz, Asher Czaplewski, Brody Buhrman, Aiden Buhrman, Jackson Buhrman; sister-in-law, Marcella Petersen of Grand Island, NE; brother-in-law, Ron Buhrman of Topeka, KS; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special friend and wonderful caregiver Mandy Dimmitt.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; son, Randy; brother, Don; sister, Velma Bergholz.
