Mary Jane Cannon
Mary Jane Molloy Cannon, 92, resident of Elim Park, Cheshire (formerly of Hamden), passed away on March 27, 2026. She was the wife of the late Robert J. Cannon Sr., and loving mother of Robert J. Cannon, Jr. (Laura) of Hamden, Joanne Cannon Brainard (Robert) of Middletown, Martha Cannon McGrath (Michael) of Tolland; grandmother of Angelyn Mary Cannon of Queens, NY, Robert James Cannon, III, of Hamden, Holly Jane McGrath of West Hartford; John Michael McGrath of Tolland; sister of Margaret Molloy Fitch of Hamden; sister-in-law of Mary Molloy of Milford and William L. Cannon of Clinton. Also survived by "second son", John A. Augenstein (Melissa) of Middlefield, and many nieces and nephews. "Jane" was born in New Haven, daughter of the late Peter S. and Gertrude Wallace Molloy. Predeceased by beloved brothers and sisters, Richard Wallace Molloy, Phyllis Molloy, Ann Molloy Vining, and Peter S. Molloy. Jane graduated from Connecticut College and The Catholic University of America with a master's degree in social work. She served the families of Connecticut at Catholic Charities and ACES. In 1994, she founded and became Director of REACHOUT, Inc., an early intervention agency for young children with special needs, where she worked until her retirement in 2003. Jane was also one of the primary founders of the CT Lifespan Respite Coalition and was a member of the Advisory Board of the Autism Spectrum Resource Center (now Autism Services and Resources Connecticut). Before moving from Hamden to Cheshire, she was an active parishioner of St. Stephen Parish in Hamden for many years. The family would like to thank Elim Park staff and Joyce Thorpe for their compassionate and loving care in recent weeks. Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday at 10:00am at St. Bridget of Sweden in Cheshire with burial following at St. Agnes Cemetery in Branford. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Avenue, Hamden.
