Mary Florence Adamski Capstaff, 96, of Aberdeen, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
A native of Long Island, New York, Mary was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Chmielewski Adamski. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband of 45 years, James A. Capstaff, who passed away in 1995; daughter, Kathleen Sapienza; son, James Capstaff IV; two sisters, Eleanore Kiely and Tecla Barber; and three brothers, Raymond, Joseph, and Lewis Adamski.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. A faithful member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, she was active in the St. Anthony Women's Guild. She was a talented cake decorator, floral arranger, and ceramic artist whose creativity brought joy to those around her. Mary was a source of wisdom and comfort to her family and friends, always ready with guidance, never with judgment. Her loving and compassionate spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Mary is survived by four daughters, Barbara Anne Wayne, Mary Stratis (Spiros), Ellen Jackson (Rick), and Theresa McManus (Mark); two sons, Joseph Capstaff (Vicki) and Gerard Capstaff (Ellen); son-in-law, Stephen Sapienza; daughter-in-law, Theresa Schneider; 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with Father John Kane officiating. The family will have an evening visitation on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at Powell Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., 40229 US-1 Aberdeen, NC 28315.
