Mary Lou Cloonan, 83
Lynn - Mary Lou (McElligott) Cloonan, age 83 of Lynn, died on Friday, October 31, 2025, after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Robert Cloonan, with whom she had shared over 52 years of marriage.
A lifelong resident of Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Blanche (Boucher) McElligott. She was a graduate of St. Patrick's Grammar School and of St. Mary's Girls High School, class of 1960.
For over 30 years Mary Lou had worked at the Federal Courthouse in Boston as a Court Stenographer. She was a longtime active Communicant of the former St. Patrick Parish in West Lynn and currently St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Parish, Lynn. She was an Irish Step Dancer and enjoyed performing the dance at various events. Mary Lou was an extremely charitable person who helped many people.
She is survived by her three brothers; Frank McElligott and his wife Geraldine of Lynn, Fred McElligott and his wife Claudia of Saugus, and Kevin McElligott and his wife Ellen of Lynn, as well as her very dear friend Barbara Cloonan of Saugus, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and grand nieces and grand nephews.
Service Information: Visitation for Mary Lou will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025 from 10:00AM-11:00AM in St. Mary's Church, 8 South Common St., Lynn. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00AM in the Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
