Mary Margaret Cooke Coberly

MARY MARGARET COOKE COBERLY, age 75 years, a resident of Mountain View Drive, Elkins, WV began her eternal life of peace with the Lord Sunday morning, December 9, 2007 at the Davis Memorial Hospital. Death was unexpected. Mary was born on Sunday, July 3, 1932 at Monivea, County Galway, Ireland, a daughter of the late Delia Cooke and Barthalemeau Cooke. While attending nursing school at Saint Stephen�s Hospital at London England, she met Ira J. Coberly who was stationed there with the United States Navy. Accompanying Ira to the United States, the couple married on December 20, 1957 at Norfolk, VA. They were stationed in several locations before returning to Elkins in 1966 where they had resided since. They were to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary December 20, 2007. Surviving Mary besides her husband, Ira, are two sons, David Coberly and wife, Leigh, and Colin Coberly and wife, Jennifer Gulling, one daughter, Delia Loftis, and her husband John, and six grandchildren, Elise, Claire, Tyler, Bailey, Blake, and Callie. Preceding her in death were her five brothers, John Joe, Vincent, Jim, Oliver, and Padraig Cooke. Mary, a native of Ireland, was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She had attended school in Ireland, was a nurse at the Davis Memorial Hospital, and was employed by Dr. N. Santra for approximately twenty-four and a half years retiring in 2002. She continued in the health care profession as a volunteer with the Ladies� Auxiliary at the Davis Memorial Hospital. She was dedicated to her faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. She was an active member of the Holy Rosary Guild and the Choir of Saint Brendan�s Church. Through all times, Mary truly gave her heart and soul to all of us. She was truly loved by her friends and her family and words cannot describe how much she will be missed. The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Wednesday. On Wednesday at 7 PM at the funeral home a wake service will be recited by the Very Reverend Donald X. Higgs VF. On Thursday morning, December 13, 2007 Mrs. Coberly will be moved to the Saint Brendan Catholic Church where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM. The Very Reverend Donald X. Higgs VF will be the Presider and interment will follow at the Saint Brendan Cemetery at Elkins, WV.
