Mary L. Coen

Mary Lucille Funke was born the third of seven children to Marie Louise Haverlah and Herman Funke on March 27, 1933 in Karnes County, Texas. The family later moved to Orange Grove, TX where she graduated from Orange Grove High School in 1951.

She met and married John Owen Coen on December 31 1953. They went on to have two children; Michael born in 1954 and Donna born in 1957. The young family moved several times with the Air Force including stays in England and Brazil.

They later returned to San Antonio where Mary began working at Brooks Air Force base as a clerk. She retired in 1992.

Mary passed away on November 24, 2025 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 92.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Frank Funke, Effie Bodin, Arlon Funke, Roland Funke and Elmer Funke. She was also preceded in death by her husband John Coen, son in law Richard Cantu and daughter Donna Cantu.

She leaves behind her sister Jeanette Herwig, son Michael Coen and wife Linda. Grandchildren Steven Coen and wife Robin, Kristy Coen, Laura Albright and husband Donovan. Step-grandchildren Megan Cantu, Devin Cantu and wife Nelda. Great grandchildren John, Heaven, Alexandria, Kyle and Eric Coen, Alannah and Abby Albright and Ryan and Seras Cantu. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
