Mary Catherine Coker of Campbellsville, KY, formerly of Summerville, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Foster Fisher and Margaret (Schnurrer) Setzer, departed this life on Monday, November 3, 2025, at her home. She was 78 years of age.
Born December 17th, 1946, in a refugee camp in war-torn Germany, her family surviving the Nazi Genocide, she became a United States citizen at the age of 14, and she grew up in South Bend, Indiana. In Anderson, South Carolina, on November 19, 1966, she united in marriage to Bruce Edward Coker (deceased), United States Navy retired of Harlan, Kentucky. Known to many as Mrs. Kay, Mrs. C, or by most, simply, grandma, she had a fantastic sense of humor and a truly kind heart. She loved to talk and never met a stranger, Ever!! She held a degree in Education from Ball State University & a Bachelor of Psychology from the University of Phoenix, and in her later years worked and volunteered as a child advocate. She was also a terrible cook. (Sorry, Mom!) Her grandchildren, great-grandchild, and music were her favorite things. She traveled the world and survived being a career military wife, Loooooooved a good steak (medium rare), painting, dancing, show tunes, old English murder mysteries, and a gin and tonic from time to time. And though she loathed vulgar language, she cursed in German (Often). She will be greatly greatly missed by many! She was of the Christian Faith.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Edward Coker; a brother and a sister: Jim Fisher and Monica Setzer.
Survived by three children:
David E Coker of Necedah, WI, Shawn Reese of Summerville, SC, and Jefferson Coker of Campbellsville, KY, formerly of Summerville, SC. Seven grandchildren: David Lee, Mackenzie, Conway, Patrick, Benjamin, Trystan Jeffrey, and Harley Kay, & one great-grandchild: Sawyer James.
To honor the wishes of Mrs. Coker, cremation rites were entrusted to L.R. Petty Funeral Home in Campbellsville, KY.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
