We are saddened to announce the passing of Mary E. Cooper, affectionately known as “Coota.” Mary was born on July 18, 1949, in Florence County to the union of the late Claude and Annie Mae Cooper. She was one of eight children born to this devoted couple.
Mary received her early education in Florence County and later dedicated more than 28 years of faithful service to Darden Restaurants, Inc., where she worked diligently until her retirement.
Mary departed this life on May 7, 2026, at the age of 76, after courageously battling an illness that became too overwhelming to overcome. She will be remembered for her kind heart, quiet strength, and the love she shared with family and friends. Her warmth, compassion, and generosity touched many lives, and her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving parents, Claude and Annie Mae Cooper; her brothers, Harry, Ronnie, and Dexter Cooper; and her sisters, Claudette and Bobby Jean Cooper.
She leaves to cherish her memory her brother, Jimmy (Mary) Cooper; her sister, Betty Gaston; and her sister-in-law, Louise Cooper. Mary will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives she touched.
Mary was also blessed with a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, extended family members, and devoted friends, including Patricia Blair (“Patty”), her goddaughter Akelay (“KK”), and Tizon (“Stanka”).
