Mary "Donna" Cowart, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026, in Savannah, Georgia, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 12, 1949, in Savannah, where she spent a lifetime marked by love, community, and joy.
Donna was the cherished wife of Larry Cowart, with whom she shared 47 beautiful years of marriage. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she was affectionately known as "BeBe" to her grandchildren. She is survived by her devoted husband, their two sons Robbie Gorman (Jessica) and Josh Cowart (Heather), and her beloved grandchildren Owen Gorman, Arden Gorman, Maisie Cowart, and Muriel Cowart. Her family extended further to include her dear nieces Katie Pinder and Dory Palmer, her nephews Chip Welch, Larry Hodges and her special cousins with whom she shared an annual girls' trip.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Linton, her brother Bobby Linton, her sister Priscilla Wexler, her sister-in-law Janey Welch, and her niece Kelli.
She was a proud graduate of Savannah High School's class of 1968. Raised in Calvary Baptist, she later became a member of Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church upon moving to Burnside Island, where she remained an active and cherished member. Donna loved gardening, shopping, boating, crabbing, and spending sunny days at the pool or on family vacations at the beach. She was known for her warmth and friendliness, never meeting a stranger in her life's journey. Her heart knew no limits when it came to helping others and believing in the people she loved.
A visitation will be held at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel in Savannah, Georgia, on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Her life will be celebrated with a funeral service at Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 11:00 AM, followed by burial at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church, 10050 Ferguson Avenue, Savannah, Georgia 31406, in Donna's loving memory.
