High Point, NC Mrs. Mary Harris Davis, 96, completed her journey home to her Lord Monday, July 08, 2013 at the Hospice Home @ High Point. Mrs. Davis was born in Cherokee County, SC, July 8, 1917, a daughter of George and Eunice Blackwell Harris. Educated by the Jesuits, she spent the early part of her life working as a nurse for a local physician. Later she worked as a seamstress at Anvil Brand and Acme Sample. Showing a tremendous work ethic, she worked well into her eighth decade. She enjoyed extensive travels throughout the United States. She traveled from Maine to the beaches of Hawaii bringing memories of the Grand Canyon, the Golden Gate and rafting the Colorado River amongst many others home to a loving family. Her later years included avid bird watching and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Davis, Sr. and four siblings. Mary was a member of Laurel Oak Christian Church. Surviving are two daughters, Betty Deal and Mary Denise Davis and her husband Roger, both of High Point; three sons, John T. Davis, Jr. and wife Judy of High Point, Dale Davis of Franklinville and George Keith Davis and his wife Kathy of Concord; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, with one due in August. . A Celebration of Mary's Life will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Laurel Oak Christian Church by the Rev. Allen Brown. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Winston Salem. The family will receive friends at Davis Funerals and Cremations Tuesday from 7 until 9 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont.
