Mary A. Dodson

1935 - 2023

Mary Angela Dodson, 88, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 4, 2023, in Midlothian, Va. She was born Jan. 26, 1935, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Charles O'Toole Sr. and Angela (Myers) O'Toole. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother, Charles R. O'Toole Jr. Mary worked as a reference librarian at Seton Hill University in Greensburg. She liked to play piano, crochet, garden and was an avid reader. She grew up in Pittsburgh and lived in Greensburg, Hutchinson, Pa., Durham, N.C., and Midlothian, Va. She was valedictorian of her Ursaline Academy class and obtained a bachelor's degree from Duquesne University, and a master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. She will be remembered for her creativity, imagination and sense of humor. Mary is survived by her daughter, Angela M. Betz; sons, Chester Dodson Jr. (Diana), Charles Dodson (Stephanie), James Dodson, John Dodson (Donna) and Gregory Dodson (Andrea); seven grandchildren, Katherine Dodson, Connor Dodson, Kevin Dodson, Brooke Dodson, Angela Dodson, Alexa Dodson, Julia Dodson and Sophia Dodson; one nephew, Marc Rabinowitz; one niece, Molly Rabinowitz (Rick Michalek); and two sisters, Kate O'Toole Rabinowitz and Ellen O'Toole. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 718 Hazelwood Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15217.
