Mary Jane Dravis age 86, of Staples, passed away peacefully on Friday August 16, 2024 at Lakewood Memory Care Center. Funeral services will be on Friday August 23, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples, MN. Visitation will be on Thursday August 22, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Brenny Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the mass. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Staples.
Mary was born to George and Gladys (Peroutka) Sedivy on December 24, 1937 in Montgomery, MN. She attended High School in Blue Earth, MN, graduating with the class of 1955. She attended St. Catherine’s University and graduated with a B.A. in Home Economics in 1959. She was united in marriage to Donald J. Dravis on June 18, 1960.
Mary and Don started life together in St. Cloud, MN, and in 1963 moved to Staples where they ended up staying and raising 5 children together. Mary was the core of the family supporting all activities that her children and Don were involved in. You would always find Mary at any Staples Wrestling event that Don coached while keeping the scorebook or encouraging the wrestlers, or referees to do their best. After Don retired, they followed their grandchildren in all their events no matter where the event was, they were there.
Mary also loved quilting, sewing, crafts as well as gardening, canning and walking for exercise. She was a Lions member and volunteered in many capacities in the Sacred Heart Church. She also enjoyed her coffee group and a couple’s “Bridge” group.
Mary is survived by her children, Paula (Mark) Redemske, Greg (Traci), Blaine, Jeff (Tara) and Mary Jo (Jim) Otteson. She loved her 14 grandchildren, Alyssa (Joe), Brian (Bailey), Cal (Aubrey), Derek, Casey, Jacob, Matthew, Sarah and their mother Dana, Justin (Chloe), Cody, Taylor, Kate, Garrett (Maddison) and Trevor (Lexie) and her 3 great grandsons, Graham, Kase and Dawson. Mary is also survived by siblings and their spouses George (Diane) Sedivy, Patricia (Donn) Fahrendorf, Barb Sedivy, Mike Sedivy and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Don of 59 years, her parents and her brother John.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Staples.
