DOVER - Mary Ellen Pelletier Eckard passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024 at The Center at Eden Hill, Dover.
Mrs. Eckard was born December 20, 1945 in Edmundson, New Brunswick, Canada to the late James Pelletier and Dorilda Dufor Pellitier.
She grew up in Madawaska, ME. After several moves, she resided in Michigan, where she attended Wayne County Community College. Mrs. Eckard received an associate degree in health sciences and worked as a CNA for a short time.
Mr. and Mrs. Eckard moved to New Jersey for a few years where she found her ultimate job at a library. Dover, DE became her final residence in 2003. She spent her final days doing what she loved; reading, puzzle books, gardening and visiting with her family.
She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Kenneth L. Eckard Sr. of Dover, DE; children, Kenneth L. Eckard Jr. and his wife Margie of Clayton, DE, and Sheila Risinger and her husband Stephen of Dover, DE; siblings, Norman Pellitier of Tampa, FL, Rose Robichaud and her husband Ken of Clifton, ME, and Samantha Pelletier of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Chesira George, Michael Russo, Megan Morris, Paul and Mark Luettke. She also has six wonderful great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held 2pm, Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover, DE. A visitation will be held one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com

My beautiful big sister. I will miss you for many reasons. I will miss our short phone calls in the middle of the day. Did I ever tell you that I loved your laugh? I will miss that laugh very much. You are not in anymore pain and you can rest easy now.
