Mary Lou Butler Edwards, 92, of Bladenboro passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, December 25, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Vady Butler; husband, Johnny Edwards; son, Benny Ray Edwards; sister, Dorothy Nance and a special daughter, Sandra Bailey. Mary Lou leaves behind two sons: WJ Edwards and wife Gladys of Bladenboro, Curley Edwards and wife Doretha of Bladenboro; three daughters: Mary Ann McLean and husband Eugene of Bladenboro, Frances Edwards of Bladenboro, Betty Jo Edwards of the home; brother: Everett Butler and wife Peggy of Bladenboro; sister: Joyce Russ and husband Charles of Fairmont; ten grandchildren: Cheryl Kinlaw, Zandra Brisson (Lynn), Susan Harrison (Chris), Barbara Freeman (Hollis), Ashley Bryant (Jason), Alyson Daughety (Adam), WJ Edwards, Jr., Michael Carlyle, Stephen Brisson (Holly), Troy Brisson; sixteen great-grandchildren: Sam, Kennedy, Christian, Conner, Kassidy, Dalton, Nolan, Luke, Rodd, Hayley, Easton, McKenzie, Joshua, Bradyn, Matthew, Abigail and one great, great-grandchild, Brantley.
Mary Lou often referred to as “Ma” was an affectionate, humble Christian lady. She attended church faithfully until her health prevented her from being there. She loved her family dearly and held a special place in her heart for those grandchildren. Mary Lou cared more about others than herself. Her forgiving spirit will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Friday, December 27th at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 28th at 2pm at Bethel Holiness Church in Bladenboro with Reverends Jerry and Hazel Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Bladen Memorial Gardens in Elizabethtown.
