Mary Elizabeth Simons (May 19th, 1932, to June 12th, 2025)
An avid traveler and devoted mother and grandmother, Mary E. Simons, aged 93, of Palm Coast, Florida passed away peacefully of natural causes on June 12th, 2025, with her loving family at her side.
She was born in Chadwicks, New York in 1932 to Hamil and Irene Zambon, part of a robust family of 10 siblings. Attending Chadwicks High School, Mary was a majorette and a cheer leader, with her team winning state awards in her senior year. After graduating, Mary worked for the US Military as a civilian in the Office of the Marine Director, stationed at Coco Solo, in the Panama Canal Zone during the 1950's.
Upon returning to the USA, Mary was associated with Camp Kilmer in New Jersey and was a devoted mother to her son, Gregg George Krom, who passed away in 1959 from a childhood illness at the age of four. She married Irving H. Simons (Harry) of Manhattan, NY on November 23rd, 1960, at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City and initially lived in Greenwich Village before moving to Rye Brook, New York to raise a family. After 60 years in Rye Brook, Mary moved to Palm Coast, Florida to be with her daughter and son-in-law, Tom, who lovingly cared for her, as well as to be closer to her grandson, Jack, while he was attending university nearby.
Mary was a devoted mother to her children Laurie and Todd, the young family spending several holiday seasons in Mexico and in the summertime going to their beach house on the south coast of Long Island, New York.
While blessed with a green thumb, and being a prolific cook, Mary's favorite role was that of grandmother to her grandson, Jack. They spent countless hours together throughout Jack's childhood, drawing art masterpieces to display all over the kitchen; playing with vintage Lionel trains in the living room; and, dressing up in appropriate themes during every holiday. Jack always had Mary beaming with joy and she was so immensely proud of his scholastic achievements as a young adult.
Mary was a person of exquisite taste and above all else had a passion for traveling with her family. She has seen the four corners of the earth and has been to almost every continent. She really loved seeing new things and having new experiences. As an avid gardener, Mary really rolled up her sleeves and had the prettiest house on the block for decades. Her cooking receives the Chef's kiss, par excellence.
Mary will always be remembered for her terrific whit and the way she always brought a smile to her family's faces when she entered the room. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
Mary was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers Doris, Hamil, Catherine, Helen, Joseph, Vincent, Teresa, and Francis, along with her beloved son, Gregg and devoted husband, Harry. She is survived by her sisters Margaret and Sandra, countless nieces and nephews and their extended families, and her two children, Laura Simons-Fee (husband Tom) of Palm Coast, Florida and Todd Arnold-Simons (husband Robert) of Woburn, Massachusetts as well as her grandson, Jack Fee of Palm Coast, Florida.
A remembrance for Mary will be held at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida Street,
Sauquoit, New York on Monday, June 23rd, 2025, between 5PM and 7PM, with a private burial at St. Mary's Cemetery in
Clayville, New York.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's memory to either
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to Childhood Cancer research would be appreciated.
