Mary Bunn Elliott, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the age of 78. A lifelong resident of Virginia, Mary was born on October 25, 1947, and graced this world with her warmth for nearly eight decades.
Mary's legacy lives on through her husband of 58 years, Dallas Elliott, her devoted daughters, Mary Angela Elliott of Clarksville, VA, and Dallaree Elliott Owen and her husband David of Bullock, NC. She cherished her role as a grandmother to Savannah Owen, who brought her immense pride and joy.
She is also survived by her loving sister, Alice Powell and husband Howard of Clover, VA, and her brother, James H. "Dick" Bunn Jr of Clover, VA. Mary was a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews, who will remember her fondly.
Mary is reunited in eternal peace with her son, Franklin H. Elliott, parents, James H. Bunn, Sr. and Mary Belle Guerrant Bunn; her brother, Henry Hubert Bunn; her sister, Katherine Bunn; her niece, Lynn Powell Burton; and her nephew, Chuck Elliott, who predeceased her.
Throughout her life, Mary worked with dedication at Burlington Industries and Russell Stover, and also shared her knowledge and kindness as a substitute teacher. Known for her generous spirit and unwavering support, Mary was a beacon of love and resilience to all who knew her. Her family was her greatest priority, and she showered them, particularly her granddaughter Savannah, with boundless love and encouragement.
In every role she took on, Mary fulfilled her responsibilities with grace and commitment. She was deeply rooted in her community, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Mary’s life lessons extended beyond her work and family; her warmth, kindness, and generosity left a lasting mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life was a testament to the values of love, integrity, and compassion.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Union Chapel Baptist Church. Friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Union Chapel Church Cemetery.
Mary’s family invites you to share in remembering her by joining them on this occasion to honor and celebrate her life. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to a charity of your choice, reflecting her spirit of giving.
Though Mary’s physical presence will be missed, her spirit endures in the hearts of those who loved her. She leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories that will be cherished forever.
Arrangements are entrusted to Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, who ensured that Mary’s final journey was handled with the utmost respect and care.
