Mary Jane Erb, loving mother and grandmother, passed away April 13, 2025 in Surprise, Arizona at the age of 95. She was born in Gary, Indiana on October14, 1929.
Born to Joseph and Susan (Amrogovic) Walla, she learned a strong sense of family and church. In 1951 she married Celestine Erb, who preceded her in death. They shared a blessed life on a farm outside Hebron, Indiana, with sons, Joseph Erb Sr., and Edward (Effie) Erb. Her legacy and zest for life will continue with her grandchildren Joseph (Mary) Erb Jr., David (Anna) Erb, Marlene (Darren) Zon, Jennifer (Steve) Krstevski, James Erb, Adam Erb, and Angela Erb. She was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren.
Mary Jane's life was rich with the love of her siblings. She was the youngest of nine and was affectionately called "Babe". Preceding her in death were brothers John Walla, Joseph Walla Sr., Andrew Walla Sr., Charles Walla Sr., George Walla Sr., Steve Walla and Paul Walla Sr., and her sister Anne Coster.
After working as a beautician a short time, and then working at US Steel Sheet and Tin, she became a homemaker. She spent as much time outside as she could, working in her vegetable and flower gardens, or just picking up sticks. She loved to cook and bake, listen to music, and have company. One of her biggest joys was attending senior activities and playing pinochle.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, May 16, 2025 at St. Helen's Catholic Church, 302 N. Madison St. Hebron, IN 46341 from 9 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Mass at 11 a.m.
Inurnment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN.
