Mary "Betty" Escobosa Obituary Cherishing a Life Well Lived
It is with profound sadness and gentle remembrance that we announce the passing of Mary Elizabeth Escobosa (also known as Betty) was a beloved family member, cherished friend, and respected member of the Teaching Profession]. She was born as an identical twin with her Sister Helen Brooks, who loved her very much. Betty departed this world peacefully on July 25, 2025, surrounded by her sister Helen, Brother-In-Law Ray and other loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering strength.
Early Life and Family
Betty was born on June 27,1940 in Los Angeles, California to Bertha & Joseph Escobosa who instilled in her the values of compassion, diligence, and curiosity. Growing up alongside her twin sister Helen Brooks and her brother Jose Antonio Escobosa, Betty enjoyed a childhood filled with adventure, learning, and family traditions.
Education and Personal Growth
Eager for knowledge, Betty excelled at Immaculate Heart High School for girls dedicated to intellectual, vitality, and spiritual learning. After graduation Betty decided to become a Nun and dedicated herself to extolling the virtues of prayer to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Before Betty took her final vows to become a Nun, she left the convent and went into teaching. She particularly enjoyed teaching third grade students. Unfortunately, Betty was tragically thrown from a car and broke her back, resulting in her becoming paraplegic. This unfortunate episode did not deter her from wanting to continue her education where she went to Fullerton State College, where she pursued studies in Education and History having graduated with two master's Degrees.
Career and Personal Life
Betty's professional journey was being a teacher and counselor marking the start of an accomplished career in the Teaching Profession. She quickly earned a reputation for excellence, reliability, and unwavering ethical standards. Over the years, Betty touched countless lives through mentorship, leadership, and a genuine desire to make a difference.
Beyond her career, Betty treasured the company of family and friends. Although she never married, she developed dozens of personal friendships as well as being known as Auntie Betty to dozens of nieces and nephews. In addition, she was a dog lover, who raised several dogs in her home with the most current one being a golden retriever named Lucy.
Legacy and Remembrance
Mary (Betty) Escobosa leaves behind a tapestry of memories woven with love, humor, and resilience. She taught us that kindness is a legacy greater than gold, and that the measure of a life is found in the hearts touched along the way. Family, friends, colleagues, and all whose lives intersected with Betty now mourn the loss of a remarkable soul. She is survived by her sister Helen, her brother Jose Antonio, her brother-in-law Ray Brooks, her nieces Suzanne Lewis, Elizabeth Ortiz, Donna Greek, and her nephew James Danner III, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews, who will continue to honor her memory by living with the same compassion, courage, and grace that defined Betty's days.
