Mrs. Mary K. (nee Greene) Fitzgerald

Mary K. (nee Greene) Fitzgerald, 84, of Fair Acres, formerly of Sharon Hill for 56 years before moving to her daughter's in Wallingford, peacefully on September 27, 2010 at Fair Acres. She was born April 13, 1926 in Philadelphia the daughter of the late John Monroe and Kathryn Elizabeth (nee Payley) Greene. She grew up in Darby and attended St. Clements, West Catholic High School for Girls and Pierce Junior College. Mary was a kind and generous woman who would go out of her way to help others. She was talented in cooking, baking and all kinds of crafts. Her family would look forward to her unbelieveable holiday meals which were all homemade from start to finish. She was very involved in her children's activities outside of the home which included serving as a Girl Scout Leader for over a decade with the annual commitment of cookie chairman for many years. She dedicated years to the Holy Spirit Women's Club including serving in the capacity as President and Treasurer. Mrs. Fitzgerald was very devoted to her family. She believed that family was the most important thing in life and was very close to her own mother, brothers and sisters throughout her life. She joined the St. Clements Senior Citizens Club in the 70's to spend more time with her mother and served as it's long term president. She also loved to travel with her husband, was a gardener who taught others how to take care of their plants and flowers, she loved to sew, cross-stitch, crochet and read. She was a true lady who gave of her time freely to others and had a gentle and kind way about her that made other feel comfortable from the start. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Rodger J. Fitzgerald who passed away in 1995; her daughter Mary Elizabeth Kadash; her brothers William, John, Gerald, Joseph and Daniel Greene and her son in law Jack Mullan who she adored. She is survived by her six children Dennis Fitzgerald (Colleen) of Ft. Meyers, FL, Kathleen Sharkey (Larry) of Claymont DE, Rodger Fitzgerald of Scranton, Patricia Mullan of Wallingford, Shawn Fitzgerald (Ingrid) of Secane and Colleen Baker (Chris) of Folcroft; her sister Lorena Butcavage (Tom) of Sharon Hill; she is also survived by her eighteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and was "Aunt Mary" to many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation Sunday from 6-8pm and Monday after 8:30am at the Cavanagh Family Funeral Home 301 Chester Pike, Norwood. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday 10am in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Sharon Ave., Sharon Hill. Interment will follow in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
