In Loving Memory of Mary "Janey" Foist
March 5, 1933 - October 19, 2025
Mary Jane 'Janey' Foist, 92, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on October 19, 2025, surrounded by the familiar Florida light she had come to love. Born on March 5, 1933, in Chester, Pennsylvania, to Thomas and Mary Scott, Janey's life was a testament to quiet strength, boundless kindness, and unwavering grace.
As a lifelong resident of St. Lucie County, Florida, Janey planted deep roots and made a lasting impact. Trained as a dental hygienist, she carried her professionalism and care into every area of her life, offering warmth to patients, friends, and strangers alike.
A woman of deep faith and gentle conviction, Janey was an active member of St. Lucie Catholic Church in Port St. Lucie. Her heart for service shone through in the many hours she volunteered at the St. Lucie County Library and as a devoted reader for the blind through WQCS-giving voice to stories for those who could no longer see them.
Janey was a loving wife, stepmother, grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cal Foist; her stepson, Chris Foist; her parents, Thomas and Mary Scott; and her brothers, Thomas A. Scott and Joseph Scott. She is survived by her stepson, Drew Foist; her granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth; and Tom Lee-a former exchange student who became as dear to her as a son. Her legacy is carried not only in names, but in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She leaves behind a world made better by her kindness, and a circle of loved ones who will feel her absence.
Along the banks of the Indian River, where she spent countless hours reading on her porch and watching the light dance across the water, her spirit lingers-in every rustling breeze, in the golden hush of sunset, and in the ever-changing beauty she so deeply loved. From that porch, she watched the world with quiet wonder, finding joy in small moments and peace in the rhythm of the river.
To know Janey was to experience a rare kind of beauty-the beauty of a soul who listened deeply, gave freely, and loved without condition. Her laughter was gentle, her presence calming, and her spirit quietly luminous.
