On a beautiful Saturday morning (November 25, 2023) when the sun was just beginning to cast its beautiful colors, Mary Leslie (Coomes) Fuchs, 70, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away at Ascension St. Vincent-Evansville. She was a long-time warrior in the fight against cancer.
Mary was born in Evansville, Indiana on October 11, 1953 to the late Lee Ray and Mary Lou (Hacker) Coomes. She graduated from Reitz Memorial High School in 1971 and attended the University of Evansville and Lockyear Business College. When Mary was younger, she enjoyed dancing and was even able to dance with Andy Williams when he came to Evansville. She loved all music and could be found most Sundays at Bokeh Lounge for Sunday Jazz. Mary adored her two dogs, Crosby and Harriett, but above all else, loved her family. She was born to be a mom and poured her heart and soul into her daughters and grandchildren. Mary was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Jon Stafford Fuchs; daughters, Kara Hartz (Michael), Kristin Comer and Jessica Montgomery (Brandon), all of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Daniel, Patrick, Leah, Lauren and Emma; and by her sisters, Sandra Repphan and Linda Coomes.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church, 609 S.E. Second St., Evansville, IN 47713 with Rev. Anna von Winkler officiating.
Friends may visit from 11:00 am until service time on Thursday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.

I was disappointed that I missed the obit, but I had to make a comment about Mary. I became acquainted with Jon and Mary through our common love for jazz. Mary was aways a glad soul. And even when she was in battle with her ailment, she always tried to put the best on for everyone. She always treated me like a long-lost friend, as I suspect was the case with everyone she knew. My sincerest condolences go to Jon and her immediate family. I am glad she is at peace, and I am glad I knew her here.

I have know Mary since 2007. Worked together for many years. Mary was THE kindest woman. She would do anything for anyone. She had a stern way as well that I believe she got from working at Vectren. Praying for her family and friends. RIP Mary!! You will be terribly missed!

Mary and her family lived three houses down from me when I was a child. I remember going to the Fuchs house, playing, and being welcome and loved by Mary & Jon.

I went to school with Kara, Kristin, and Jessica. Our families both moved from the neighborhood, but the friendship was always there.

Somewhat coincidentally, I worked with Mary when I began my corporate career. She was again a "second mother" type figure. She gave me great advice and was a sounding board for any issue, big or small, personal or professional. Mary's love and desire to help people never wavered and it didn't matter who you were. It was consistent for everyone.

Mary faced, with great faith and dignity, similar health issues to what my mom has faced. I can only imagine what Jon and the girls are going through. I hope they find comfort knowing that her spirit will carry on in everyone who knew her, and we'll all see her again one day under the very best of circumstances.
