Mary Lou Gilbert, 91, of Greensboro, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 23, 2023.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Arthur Teague and Ina Royals Teague; sister, Nina Alice Lineberry and her beloved husband, Paul Gilbert.
Mary Lou is survived by her daughters Tonya Gilbert of Greensboro and Gina Pendergrass (Tim) of Riverview Florida; her grandchildren, Kyle (Jess), Chris (Kimberly), and Kent (Hailey) and her great grandchildren, Noel, Thea, Bram, Landon, Lincoln and Lane.
Mary Lou grew up in
Staley, North Carolina where her father owned the general store. She enjoyed stopping by there after school to get ice cream with her friends and often did her homework on the large flour sacks at the store.
She attended Woman's College of the University of North Carolina and Elon College.
Mary Lou held various jobs throughout her life and retired from Gilbarco in 1977, but her husband and children were always her priority. She enjoyed cooking and decorating cakes. She was an accomplished seamstress and an avid gardener.
Mary Lou will be remembered for her love of God, her family, her church and her friends. She loved to study the Bible and participated and volunteered in many activities at Lawndale Baptist Church.
Her children and grandchildren will treasure the memories of family camping trips, beach vacations, competitive card games and special letters from "Memaw."
Her family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her devoted caregivers and companions: Wanda Keith, Jan LeClair, Tina Powers and Amber Joyce.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023 in the Mausoleum (Red Brick) at Westminster Gardens, 3601 Whitehurst Road, Greensboro.
