Mary Louise Gilligan, 97, entered into rest on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
Mary Louise was born on October 30, 1927, in Ray City, Georgia, to the late Dozier P. Weldon and Carolyn Hancock Weldon. A naturally gifted seamstress, she spent time working with the Macon Shirt Company before embarking on a long and dedicated civil service career at Robins Air Force Base in 1968. There, she specialized in repairing instrument gyroscopes, a role she held with skill and pride until her retirement in 1994.
Resourceful and independent, Mary Louise had a knack for fixing things—whether at work or around the house—and took great satisfaction in solving problems with her own two hands. She found joy in the outdoors, whether tending to her garden, casting a fishing line, or simply spending time with her family, cherishing every moment and memory made together. She will be deeply missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
In addition to her parents, Mary Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Leo Gilligan, brothers, James Weldon and Johnny Weldon, and daughter, Delores L. Knight.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Deborah F. Whatley (Tim) of Clarksville, Tennessee and Pamela F. Deese (Neil) of Gray, Georgia, along with six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Mary Louise will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Mary Louise Gilligan to Sandy Valley Baptist Church at 1124 South Houston Lake Road, Warner Robins, GA 31088 or a charity of your choice.
