Mary Grover Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home - East Louisville on Jan. 9, 2026.
Mary Alice Phillips Grover, 94, passed away on January 7, 2026, in Louisville. She was born April 20, 1931, in Pittsburgh, PA to Thomas Scott Phillips and Ethel Kathleen Hooton Phillips.
Mary Alice was an only child and spent most of her childhood in Charleston and Parkersburg, W. VA. Her mother died when she was 14. Early on she proved to be an outstanding student and graduated at the top of her Parkersburg High School class in 1948. She attended the University of Cincinnati where she earned her nursing degree and met the love of her life, Donald L. Grover. Don and Mary Alice were married just after college graduation on August 2, 1952.
Mary Alice and Don moved to Louisville in 1956. She worked in several full and part time positions over many years, including the old Louisville General Hospital, Baptist Hospital East, and Twinbrook Nursing Home.
Mary Alice had many interests, most of which she and Don enjoyed together. While her children were at home, she coordinated getting everybody to lessons and practices and participated in Girl Scouts, PTA, Louisville Youth Orchestra, and more. Together with Don she enjoyed dancing, hosting parties and card nights, traveling, attending the Louisville Orchestra, Bunbury Theatre, Derby Dinner Playhouse, and volunteering for many TWIGS fundraising events. They were active members for over 60 years at Harvey Browne Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Mary Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Donald Leroy Grover. She is survived by her children Diane Grover (Mark Kibbey) of Edmonds, WA; Mark Grover (Diane) of Jeffersonville, IN; Julie Rousseau (John) and Linda Henderson of Louisville. Grandchildren include John Kibbey (Elisa) of Little Rock, AR; Karen Kibbey (Arthur Beatte IV) of Bothell WA; Chelsea Stengel (Jake) of Jeffersonville, Austin Grover of Plano, TX, Paxton Rousseau (Sydney), Payton Rousseau, Keegan Henderson (Ashley), and Cason Henderson all of Louisville. Great grandchildren include Henry Kibbey, Jessica and Arthur Beatte V, Collin and Claire Stengel.
A memorial service will be held at Harvey Browne Memorial Presbyterian Church, 311 Browns Lane, Louisville, KY 40207 on Sunday January 18 at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive visitors from 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, it was Mary Alice's wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of donations to the Harvey Browne General Memorial Fund.
Remains will be interred at Cave Hill Cemetery.
