Mary Ellen Hamlin, 91, passed away peacefully at home in Gallatin, Tennessee, on Friday, January 23, 2026. Born May 3, 1934, in Owosso, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Ferdinand Aelker and Martha Began Aelker. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose warmth and generosity touched all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Robert Aelker and Donald Aelker; sisters Theresa Marie Aelker Long, Elizabeth Jane Aelker Wisner, and Gladys Aelker Cherry.
Mary is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Lamott F. Hamlin; her loving children, Darrin (Mickey) Hamlin and Martha Crutcher. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Keith (Ali) Hamlin, Kassidy Benthal, Kyle Benthal, and Carson (Rylie Carter) Hamlin, along with her great-grandchildren, Brooks Hamlin, Samuel Hamlin, and Avery Grace Hamlin.
A woman of many passions, Mary found immense joy in cooking, particularly during the holiday season when her Christmas cookies were a highlight for friends and family alike. She had a remarkable knack for tending to her flowers and landscaping, creating personal havens of beauty that reflected her nurturing spirit. A valued member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, she was deeply committed to her faith.
Throughout her life, Mary demonstrated an unwavering commitment to giving back to the community, supporting organizations such as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the Wounded Warrior Project, which held a special place in her heart.
Mary will be profoundly missed—her generosity, kindness, and love for family will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Donations can be made to St. John Vianney Catholic Church or St. John Vianney Catholic School.
