Sister Mary Alice Hatcher left this world for her eternal home Saturday, November 2, 2024, in the comfort of her Taft residence. Seventy of her 86 years were spent ministering the Gospel of Jesus Christ. A trailblazer since the age of 15, she began pastoring The Church of Jesus Christ in Taft, Florida in 1957. She was called, “Sister Mary Alice, Sis. Hatcher, and “The Walking Bible.”
Sis. Hatcher was born December 28, 1937, in Plant City, Florida to the late Minister Robert & Sister Mary Merrell, the seventh of eight children. She was wed in Holy Matrimony to Nicholas Jiles Hatcher at the church in Taft January 21, 1966.
She is survived by her husband and three children, Mary Renee Squires of Taft, FL (Spouse: Pastor Thomas J. Squires), Merrell Lynn Palmer (Spouse: John Daniel Palmer II) of St. Cloud, FL, and Cheryl Ann Meadors (Spouse: Tod Meadors) of St. Cloud, FL. Grandchildren: Thomas J. Squires, Twyla R. Lopez, Timothy R. Squires, JD (Joan) Palmer, Emily M. Palmer, and eight Great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her Parents and Siblings- June Miles, Hazel Gresham, Thelma Merrell, Nellie Smesta, Naomi Gresham, Robert Merrell, and Rebecca (Miles) Reynolds.
A Celebration of Sister Hatcher’s life is scheduled for Saturday, November 9, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ, 9521 6th Ave., Orlando, FL 32824. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. and a Memorial Service will follow at 11 a.m.
Interment will be at the Taft Memorial Cemetery.
Refreshments will be provided at the Church of Jesus Christ afterwards.
