Mary Jane Heitkamp Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved aunt passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025 at her home. Age 88 years. The daughter of the late Joseph and May (Benford) Heitkamp, Mary Jane was born on December 8, 1936, in Saginaw, Michigan. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1954. After an 11-year career with Michigan Bell Telephone Company, Mary Jane furthered her education, earning both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Central Michigan University. She dedicated more than 30 years to teaching as a first-grade teacher at Houghton and Stone Elementary Schools in Saginaw, retiring in 1998. She was also a Reading Specialist at Webber Elementary School. Mary Jane was a longtime member of First Congregational Church, where she participated in the Ladies Society, and also belonged to the Michigan Retired Teachers Association. An avid reader, she also enjoyed needlework, cross-stitching, and jigsaw puzzles. Other than her family, her beloved canine companions brought her the greatest joy.
Surviving are one brother, Joseph (Bev) Heitkamp, Jr.; her nieces and nephews, Vickie Schroeder, Ellen (David) Mook, Lynn Heitkamp and Jeffrey (Melina) Heitkamp; great-nieces and great-nephews, Donald Thompson III, Erik Thompson, Christopher Thompson, Jedidiah Mook, Shelby (Phil Brookins) Heitkamp, Kasey (Tyler Stafford) Heitkamp, Ryan Heitkamp and Conner Heitkamp; many great-great-nieces and nephews. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her brother, Jim B. (Donna) Heitkamp; her nephews, Jim (Debra) Heitkamp II and Robert Schroeder; her lifelong friend, Ruth Marie Ruyts.
Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 10, 2025 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty). Pastor Julie Bailey will officiate with interment to follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Saginaw County Humane Society or Amazing Grace Animal Rescue.
