Mary Hess

1939 - 2025

Mary Louise (Hofe) Hess, 85, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at her home. Born Sunday, May 14, 1939, in Big Pool, MD, she was the daughter of the late Ada Louise (Sipes) Hofe and Charles Franklin Hofe. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Samuel and Mazie Sipes and Levi and Christina Hofe. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Walter "Gabby" Hess, who passed away on January 26, 2020. Mary was the last surviving member of her family. Also preceding her was her infant twin brother; and brothers, Charles Hofe, Jr., Levi Hofe, Clyde Hofe, and Kenneth Hofe; sisters, Lula Lea Hofe, Violet Grove, Alene May, Lorraine Carter, Ruth Moore, and Genevieve Houpt. Mary worked at J.J. Newberry's and at Miracle Mart. She was a Golden Member (50 years) of Grace United Methodist Church, Hagerstown, where she was a member of the "Willing Workers" Sunday School Class. She loved going out to eat, watching the Baltimore Orioles play and spending time with her family. She is survived by twin daughters, Wanda Stouffer and husband Gale and Rhonda Weaver and husband Tony; son, Dale Hess and wife, Missy, all of Hagerstown; and daughter, Pamela Gregory and husband, Jimmy, of Mt. Airy, MD; seven grandchildren, Kelli Jones and husband, Chris of Falling Waters, WV, Dwayne Weaver and wife, Emily, Derrick Kinna and wife, Cassie, Bradley Taylor (Brooke), Amy Hess (Tyeler), Brandon Hess and wife, Rachael, and Jayden Hess, all of Hagerstown; thirteen great-grandchildren, Emmah and Maddison Jones, of Falling Waters, WV, Aliviah and Brynn Weaver, Kaylee Kinna, Summer, Lilah, and Jett Taylor, Ella, Tanner, and Kalli Presgraves, Maverick and Leighton Hess, all of Hagerstown. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, M. Jane Hess of Smithsburg. Services will be held Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 2:30 pm, at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North Hagerstown, MD, with the Rev. Clark D. Carr officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home, Wednesday, January 15, 2025, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Interment will be at the Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD.
