Mary Rose Recker Hogenmiller, age 100, of Erie, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2025 at St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge. She was born in Erie on August 5, 1925, daughter of the late Edward F. Recker and Cecelia Burg Recker.
Mary Rose attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and graduated from Academy High School in 1943. She married William Hogenmiller in 1947. She was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Church and was involved in many activities of the parish - Altar Society, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, the rummage sale, the bake sale, the spaghetti dinner, and outreach to the shut-ins. Mary Rose and Bill were longtime members of the Glenwood YMCA. She provided care for family members and neighbors through the years and also volunteered for 13 years with Hospice of Metropolitan Erie.
Mary Rose will be dearly missed by her family. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend and neighbor. She always remembered birthdays, anniversaries and other important events with a handwritten card and note. She also will be remembered for the many afghans, mittens and hats she knitted or crocheted for family members.
In addition to her parents, Mary Rose was preceded in death by her husband, William Hogenmiller (they celebrated 70 years of marriage before his death in 2018); her brother, Edward Recker; and her sister, Margaret Weisenbach.
Mary Rose is survived by her six children, Karen Krahe (Ronald) of East Springfield, PA, Susan Quinn of Pittsburgh, PA, Judith Hopkins (Richard) of Sterling, MA, Gerard Hogenmiller (Gail) of St. Louis, MO, Jane Steineck (Robert) of Pittsburgh, PA and Mark Hogenmiller (Chie) of Burke, VA; and her sister, Lois Leach. She will be missed by her 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family of Mary Rose would like to express their gratitude to the staff at St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge for their care and concern. In addition, the family deeply appreciates the love and kindness extended by Amy Scalise.
