Mary Luetta (Leonard) Howerton, 86 of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at St. Mary's Manor in Blue Springs, MO.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 20109 Business Hwy. 13, Higginsville, MO, 64037. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church in Odessa, MO. Memories of Mary and condolences for her family may be left at or on our Facebook Page. Mary was born on April 29, 1936, in El Dorado Springs, MO to Rolla Ray and Hazel Irene (Sizemore) Leonard. After getting her GED she graduated from nursing school in Nevada, MO with her L.P.N Degree. Mary was united in marriage to Samuel Leo Howerton on January 22, 1952, in Cedar County, MO. He preceded her in death on February 9, 2002. Mary worked for the Garment Factory in Odessa, 15 years at the Nevada, MO Hospital as an LPN, and for 15 plus years at R&S Mini Storage and Laundromat. Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Odessa and Eastern Star in Higginsville, MO. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Mary enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, scrapbooking, and most of all time with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Patty Howerton of Derby, KS; two children, Ronnie Ray Howerton and wife Donna of Odessa, MO and Connie Joyce Sanders of Mayview, MO; six grandchildren, Jennifer Bailey, Sarah Groth and husband Tyler, Kelly Morris and husband Anthony, Kristy Howerton, Sammi Burroughs and husband David, and Tyler Sanders; nine great-grandchildren, Julianna Bailey, Jackson Bailey, Lilly Groth, Easton Groth, Clayton Morris, Ayden Morris, Marissa Smoot, Samuel Burroughs, and Iris Burroughs; one brother, James Ray Leonard and wife Ruth of El Dorado Springs, MO; and many extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by a son, Lonnie Allen Howerton and a son-in-law, Jeff Sanders.
