Mary Jackson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Amory Funeral Home, Inc. - Yorktown on Sep. 23, 2025.
With heartfelt love and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Mary Calloway Jackson, who peacefully left this world on July 4, 2025, at the age of 88.
Supported by family, close friends, and the gentle memories of a long, meaningful life, Mary passed with the same grace and quiet dignity with which she lived.
Born on August 18, 1936, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Mary was a woman of extraordinary warmth, resilience, and unwavering love. She was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend - a matriarch in the truest sense, whose presence was a source of strength and comfort to everyone who knew her.
Mary devoted her life to her family and her community. An Elementary School Teacher by choice and a caregiver by nature, she raised four children with patience, humor, and an abundance of unconditional love. Her home was always open - a place where laughter was shared freely, meals were made from scratch, and no one ever left without a full heart.
She had a special talent for making the ordinary feel sacred. She lived a life rooted in compassion, humility, and generosity - always ready with a warm smile, a listening ear, or a helping hand. Whether she was hosting family dinners, sharing a special memory, or offering a comforting word, Mary made the people around her feel seen, loved, and safe. Mary approached every task with care and intention. She had a gentle spirit, a sharp wit, and wisdom that came not only from books, but from living a life rooted in faith, compassion, and gratitude.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 38 years, Howard Jackson, and their youngest son, Bruce. She is survived by her daughters Jenny (Michael), Karen, and son Lance (Pam); seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, neighbors, and dear friends who adored her.
Mary was a member of Grace Episcopal Church for 35 years, where she assisted Howard and Karen when each was Senior Warden, and volunteered at the bookstore for over twenty years. Her faith was quiet but deep, and it guided her through life's joys and sorrows with steadfast grace.
A memorial service celebrating Mary's life will be held on Saturday, July 12, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Episcopal in Yorktown, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 7 PM in Amory Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the church's food pantry or a charity of your choice in Mary's name.
Mary Jackson lived a life of quiet greatness. She didn't seek the spotlight, but her light illuminated everyone around her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and the gentle reminder that a life well-lived is one full of simple acts of grace. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
