Mary Jane Stafford

Mary Jane Stafford passed away in her home Saturday, June 10, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Rose Marie Yeropoli and James Vadala and a 1949 graduate of McKeesport, PA High School. In 1960, she moved to Arlington, Va., and began her career with the Department of the Army, Chief of Information Office, Pentagon, and later worked with several other Dept. of Defense organizations. She retired in 1990 as the director of administration for the Defense Mapping Agency, now known as the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, and received the agency's Meritorious Civilian Service award for her outstanding accomplishments.lineShe spent many summers at the Delaware beaches, and after retirement lived in Lewes Beach, Del., for several years before returning to Arlington, Va. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn R. Penn; granddaughters, Christy M. Fraize (Dave) and Adrienne M. Berry (Roy); four great-grandchildren, Ryan M. Moriarty, Sean P. Moriarty, Ashley N. Baldwin and Alexander C. Berry; one great-great-grandson, Kaiden M. Moriarty; nephew, Anthony Barbera; and niece, Diana Barbera. She was predeceased in death by her brother, Sonny Vadala, and sister, Josephine Barbera. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2023, in St James Catholic Church, 905 Park Ave., Falls Church, Va. Burial will be held, privately at noon Friday, July 14, 2023, in St. Joseph Cemetery, 1443 Lincoln Highway, N. Versailles.
