Mary was a proud graduate of Berrien County High School. Throughout her life, she developed a passion for cooking, sewing, floral designs, and crafting, with a particular love for working in her flower garden. Her creative talents shone brightly in her role on the decorating committee at her church, CrossView Baptist Church, where she also assisted with many functions, including the Lord's Supper and honoring Mothers on Mother's Day.
Family was the center of Mary's universe. She shared a unique and special relationship with her daughter, Carla. They spent many hours on the road traveling to and from softball tournaments, cooking for family gatherings in the kitchen, and talking on the phone about the highlights of their day. Of all the gifts of motherhood, her grandchildren became her greatest joy. She was affectionately known as “GiGi” and their “second mom” spending a lot of time after school and long summer days together. As their biggest cheerleader, Mary never missed Mary Wynn cheering on the Panthers, Eva’s dance recitals, or one of their many school programs.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Carl Hugh Johnson, Jr.; her daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Vann Jones; and her two granddaughters, Mary Wynn Jones and Eva Jones, her two brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Pam Gaskins and Ronnie and Shirley Gaskins; as well as her sisters and brothers-in-law, Laverne O'Neal, Pam and Dub Danforth, and Faith and Derrell Danforth.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earlie Gaskins ; her sister, Johnnie Holland; and her brother-in-law, Gerald Holland.
Mary Johnson's legacy of love, creativity, and devotion to her family and community will endure in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
