Mary Hildegarde Johnson

Mary Hildegarde "Heidi" Johnson, 79, of Pottsboro, TX, passed away on December 20, 2025. Born in Youngstown, OH, Heidi was the daughter of Hildemar Ernst Johnson and Jane Strausbaugh Johnson. She later lived in North Texas, where she cultivated wonderful friendships with her neighbors and friends at Denison's Waterloo Pool.

Heidi will be remembered for her lively sense of humor, passion for swimming, and her love for animals and the outdoors. In her later years, she sent a message to a friend in which she described listening to Andrea Bocelli sing opera while sitting in her backyard, keenly aware of birds, coyotes and other natural wonders around her. Well into her seventies, she was still riding her horse, and won a gold medal in her age category at Waterloo Pool.

She is survived by her sister Christine Johnson Winter and her nephew Brian Benjamin Winter, both of Pelham, NY, as well as her grandniece and grandnephews, and many friends who will miss her deeply. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Denison Animal Welfare Group (DAWG), a non-profit animal rescue organization.
