Mary Willie McKissick Keith, 82, was born on December 25, 1940, in Whitestone, South Carolina. She dedicated 59 years of unwavering love and companionship as the cherished wife of Mr. Jerry M. Keith, Sr. Mary held the position of the eldest of nine children, born to the late Mr. Willie McKissick, Sr. and Mrs. Atlanta Knuckles McKissick.
A Life Well Spent…
Mary was a devoted member of Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church where she selflessly served on the Usher Board, Women’s Missionary Society, and Lay Ministry. Her commitment extended beyond the church walls as she played vital role in the NAACP Florence Branch, Senior Citizen Association and Denmark Technical Alumni Association, further demonstrating her passion for community involvement and service.
She was a 1959 graduate of Benjamin E. Mays High School, and continued her education at Denmark Technical College, graduating in 1961. After graduation, she relocated to Florence, South Carolina dedicating herself to a career as a seamstress. Crafting dresses for weddings and various elegant garments. Mary worked for reputable entities such as Wentworth Manufacturing and General Electric and concluded her professional journey with a well-deserved retirement from AVX Corporation in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Beyond her professional life, Mary found joy in nurturing her passions, including cooking, bird watching and showcasing her green thumb through the outdoor beautification of her home.
Sunset…
She transitioned from her earthly journey to her heavenly home on Thursday, November 30, 2023. Welcoming her to eternal rest are her parents; her sisters, Inell M. Goggins, Lorine M. Shells and Betty M. Oglesby; her brother, Johnny “Buck” McKissick; and her nephew, Marcus McKissick.
Those Who Remain…
Survived by her husband, she leaves behind treasured memories for her sons, Jerry M. (Maud) Keith, Jr., Michael L. Keith and Daryle L. Keith, all of Florence, South Carolina; her daughter, Melissa C. Keith of Spartanburg, South Carolina; her granddaughter, Savanah M. Keith; two grandsons, Michael K. Brocks and Daryle J. Keith; four great grandchildren; her sister, Elizabeth McKissick of Spartanburg, South Carolina, her brothers, Robert McKissick and Willie McKissick both of Spartanburg, South Carolina; nieces, nephews, and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends. Mary McKissick Keith of Florence transitioned on Thursday, November 30, 2023. Arrangements will be announced by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.
