Mary Catherine Kitzinger, known affectionately as Mary to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024, at the age of 85 in Evansville, IN. Born on August 14, 1939, in Cannelton, IN, Mary was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew her. Her warm smile and generous spirit will be deeply missed.
Mary was the beloved matriarch of her family, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her devoted son, Roger, and his wife, Julie Brauser. Although predeceased by her sons, Steve and Keith Brauser, Mary's memory lives on through her adoring grandchild, including Emmalee, and many nieces and nephews who will continue to honor her memory. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William and Clara Smith, and her siblings, with whom she now rests in peace.
After graduating from high school, Mary dedicated 40 years of her life to the food service industry. She retired as a food service director, having spent a significant portion of her career at Little Sisters of the Poor, where she retired in 2005. Her commitment to her work was evident in the care and attention she gave to every meal she prepared and every individual she served.
Mary's involvement in her community was a testament to her caring nature. As a proud member of Civitan, she contributed to numerous community service projects and initiatives. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a dedicated member of the Methodist Church, where she found great comfort and fellowship.
An avid reader, Mary found solace and adventure within the pages of books, which were her constant companions. Her unique and whimsical collection of chicken figurines was a source of delight not only to her but to all who visited her home. This collection was more than a hobby; it was a reflection of her personality-colorful, diverse, and full of character.
Special thanks are extended to the compassionate caregivers at North River and Heart to Heart, who provided Mary with exceptional care and support during her final days. Their kindness and dedication were a source of comfort to Mary and her family.
Mary's life was a tapestry of love, service, and simple joys. She approached each day with a heart full of gratitude and a desire to make a positive impact on those around her. As we say goodbye to Mary Catherine Kitzinger, we celebrate a life well-lived and a woman well-loved. Her spirit will forever be a guiding light to those she leaves behind.
There will be graveside services Monday October 14th at 1pm at Sunset Cemetery.
