Mary Louise Koenig, age 62 of Winona, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at Mayo Clinic Health System – Franciscan Healthcare in LaCrosse on Friday, November 17, 2023.
Mary was born April 7, 1961 in Winona to George and Virginia (Philipps) Koenig. She attended Winona Senior High and later in life graduated with honors from Herzing University, Minneapolis, as a Medical Coding Specialist. She married Cory Wade in 1981 at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart and they had one son, Lee. They lived in Washington, Colorado, Oregon and Wyoming always near the mountains where their family often camped and rode their dirt bikes. She took great pride in caring for her family and home while Cory worked as a millwright. Mary moved to Winona in 2000 when they divorced and also lived in Hopkins, MN.
Mary had a big heart and you could always count on big hug and an “I love you”when you parted ways. She was very generous and kind and willing to help others in need. With a wonderful sense of humor, she had a lot of laughs with friends and family. Mary was very artistic and enjoyed painting, drawing, macrame and crocheting. She liked sudoku and jigsaw puzzles and enjoyed a good mocha latte. Mary adored children and babies and couldn’t bear to hear a baby cry and would rush to comfort them. She was also an animal lover, especially dogs, cats and horses. Along with her son, Lee, her grandchildren, Caden, Olivia and Lucas, were her true joy in life.
She is survived by her son, Lee (Sara) Wade; grandchildren, Caden, Olivia and Lucas Wade; two sisters, Debbie Koenig and Melanie (Dan) Messmann; brother, Jim Koenig (Linda); sister-in-law, Lynne Martin; nieces and nephews, Robin (Kimberly) Donalds, Bryon (Holly) Koenig, Jason Koenig, Jessica (Franklin) Rivera, Codey (Meghan) Martin, Mariah (Patrick) Hardesty, Sean (Nichole) Koenig, Daniel (Rachel) Koenig, Maggie (Jesse) Messmann and Ellie (Austin) Messmann, as well as several dear friends and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gregory, Patrick and George Jr.; sister-in-law, Lisa Koenig.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Hoff Celebration of Life Center, 3480 Service Drive, Goodview, MN. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:30 to 1:00.
