Mary "Grace" Cerulli Kupec
Mary "Grace" Cerulli Kupec, passed away on July 30, 2023, of complications from pneumonia at Bourne Manor, in Bourne, MA, where she lived for the last two years. She had just celebrated her 98th birthday with family and friends. Grace was born on July 16,1925, in Ossining, NY, to Marian Nagot Cerulli and Anthony Vito Cerulli. The family then moved back to Stamford, CT. She was the oldest of four children: Barbara Cerulli Symanko, John Cerulli, and Dorothy Cerulli Mulholland.
Grace attended Holy Name School and Sacred Heart Academy School. She worked as a bookkeeper for Waldenbooks, a nurse's aide in the Maternity Department at St Joseph's Hospital, and a receptionist for OB/GYN doctors Goodhue, Gray, and Steinmann in Stamford, CT. Grace was an avid seamstress and renowned cook and gardener. Her popular clam dip recipe is the talk of gatherings each time it's served. Grace was introduced to her husband-to-be, Wendell "Windy" Kupec, of Coaldale, PA, by her Uncle Chippy, when the two men were stationed in New York after World War II. Grace and Windy were married in Stamford on June 22, 1946. (Windy died January 14, 2010). During the war, Grace and her sister, Barbara, were Blackout Wardens, walking their neighborhood reminding neighbors to darken all windows at night.
Grace's memory will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Mary Alice "Lolly" Kupec (Ed Miller), from Lake Tahoe, CA, Barbara Lynn Kupec DiFranco (Peter DiFranco), of Bourne, MA, and Adam Anthony Kupec, of Seymour, CT; two adored grandchildren, Kate DiFranco (Kate Preston) and Amy DiFranco Nathan (Sid Nathan); and one great-grandchild, Dev Nathan, who she had the privilege of seeing each time he was on the Cape.
On Saturday, August 12, 2023, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held to celebrate and observe Grace's extraordinary life at 10:00 a.m. directly at St. Andrew's Church, 395 Anton Street, Bridgeport, CT 06606. Interment will follow at Lawncroft Cemetery, 1740 Black Rock Turnpike, Fairfield, CT 06825.
In lieu of flowers, Grace's family requests that memorial donations be made in honor of Mary Grace Kupec to the Alzheimer's Family Support Center of Cape Cod, 2095 Main Street, Brewster, MA 02631.
Her family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Gentiva Hospice and all the staff at Bourne Manor Extended Care Facility. A special thanks to the incredible Nurses and CNAs in Unit 2. You made us truly feel like family through your love and support. We will miss seeing you and all the residents. Grace loved you all.
