Mary, age 72, entered into eternity on November 23, 2025, at Vista Prairie Care Center in Alexandria, MN, with compassionate care from the staff and Moments Hospice.
Mary was born on April 20, 1953, in Willmar, MN. She was adopted into the loving home of John "Jack" and Leone (O'Halloran) Liemandt and welcomed by older brother John. She spent her growing up years in Golden Valley, MN enjoying yard games with her father, playing with her brother John, and shopping with her mother. She graduated from Edina high school Class of 1971.
Following high school, she worked as a flight attendant for Northwest Airlines. Her employment with Northwest provided her with the chance to travel and see the world. She relayed numerous adventures and met several celebrities, one memorable star being Andre, the giant whom she served on a flight.
Mary was united in marriage to Richard Almquist in 1974. That union was blessed with 8 children, Daniel, Kathryn, Laura, Elizabeth, Christine, Rebecca, Martha and Patrick. One of Mary's greatest joys was raising her children on a farm, spending hours in the garden, canning hundreds of quarts and pints every season, sewing, caring for animals, and teaching her children. She had picture worthy rose gardens, herb gardens, grape arbors, every variety of fruit tree, and of course a HUGE vegetable garden. Mary valued a simple life! She was gifted in hosting community Christmas parties, Fall Festivals, ice cream socials, and fine dinners. Some of her children's fondest memories are the elaborate birthday cakes she created and the parties she planned.
She was known for her faith in Christ, leaning on Him even in the most difficult trials. She was endeared for her sense of humor, delighting everyone with her witty words and quoting classic movie lines even up to the very end. Mary loved to laugh!
In her later years, Mary worked from home and cultivated friendships with the local Amish as their personal taxi driver. She grew to know all the Amish farm dogs by name. Mary cherished her grandchildren, and loved spending time with them, and kept track of all 31 birthdays.
Preceding Mary in death were her parents, Jack and Leone and son, Daniel Almquist.
Left to remember Mary are her children: JacyRae (Daniel) Almquist, Kathryn Landmann, Laura (Ben) Andersen, Elizabeth (Mike) Quance, Christine (Luke) Vaneps, Rebecca (Mike) Fitzlaff, Martha (Matt) Weber, and Patrick Almquist; 31 grandchildren; brother, John Liemandt, Sr; niece, Anne Ferreira; nephew, John Liemandt Jr; former husband, Richard Almquist; along with extended family and friends.
Serving as casket bearers will be Ben Andersen, Mike Quance, Mike Fitzlaff, Luke Vaneps, Matt Weber and Patrick Almquist.
