Dr Mary Lindsey-Lewis

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dr. Mary Lindsey-Lewis "Mary Jane" (Tampa, Florida), who passed away on January 26, 2018,. Dr. Mary Lindsey-Lewis was born Mary Davis May 24, 1944 in Graniteville, SC, to her loving parents, Lawton H. and Evelean Davis. She attended Schofield Elementary School. Attended South Carolina State University and got her Doctorate degree from the University of Florida 1981 Mary served as The Executive, Director of the Hillsborough County Center Excellence, Inc. Since 1985 and as Director of the Florida HIPPY Training and Technical Assistance Center since 1996. She had a passion for watching children grow, develop, and achieve in the classroom and in their community. Mary's family and friends were her greatest treasures. She enjoyed serving others and valued the relationships she formed all around the world. Mary was presented the 2016 Dr. Avima D. Lombard Award of Distinction - the highest award given too individuals in the National/International HIPPY network. She traveled across the continent of Africa spreading her love for education and children. She built wells in The Gambia so the villages could have adequate drinking water; donated books to the local villages; and educated the parents on how to teach their children at home. She was a beacon of light all across the globe. She was preceded in death by her father, Lawton H. Davis & Brother, Rev. Paul D. Davis Mary is survived by her devoted Husband, Willie Lewis ; mother, Evelean Davis; son, David Lindsey "Hips", Daughter, April Lindsey Gillyard; grandchild, Kaleb Maglott; Devoted Brother Lawton Edward Davis Sr. "Sonny" and wife Shirley Heath Davis; Aunt Yvonne Davis Marks; Uncle Mr Zonnie Watson and wife; nefews, Lawton Edward Davis Jr., Sheldon Martinez Davis Sr. "Natalac" & Armand Kareem Davis. Niece, Lashon Davis, & Many cousins
