Mary J. Lipscomb

Mary J. Lipscomb, 84, of Dowling, passed away February 22, 2026 while wintering in West Palm Beach, FL. Mary was born January 8, 1942 in Battle Creek to Jewell A. and Frances E. (Glau) Hoyt.

Mary graduated from Athens High School, Class of 1960. After graduation Mary attended Kellogg Community College.

Mary worked as a secretary and met Gary while they were working at the Battle Creek Sanitarium. The couple were married September 9, 1967.

Mary volunteered at the hospital gift shop in Battle Creek and served her community as a church secretary at Galesburg Congregational Church and Climax United Methodist Church.

Mary sang in the church choir and was a dedicated and avid quilter. Mary served as the state representative for ABC Quilts and made sure quilts were distributed to those in need all throughout the state of Michigan. In most cases she hand delivered the quilts herself.

Above all else, Mary was a devoted Christian, wife, mother and grandmother. She cherished her family deeply and will be greatly missed.

Mary is survived by her loving husband, Gary; their two sons, Nathan (Rhonda) Lipscomb and Chris (Star) Lipscomb and many grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers John and David Hoyt.

Visitation will be Friday, February 27, 2026 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Funeral services to celebrate Mary’s life will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 28 at Delton Community Church with a luncheon to follow. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Battle Creek. Memorial donations may be directed to Delton Community Church, 5380 Mooselodge Dr., Delton, MI 49046.
