Mary Jo Lockwood "Nana" passed away peacefully May 8, 2024, at the age of 96 at her home in Baton Rouge. She was born and raised in Columbus, Georgia. She was married to her husband for 55 wonderful years. He was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force and they traveled and lived all over the world. They settled in Baton Rouge, LA, his hometown. They were members of Florida Blvd Baptist Church where she taught the 5-year-old Sunday School class for 50 years. She was an avid runner/walker all her life, however her true passion was to learn, know and live by the Bible. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all her mind, body and most importantly, her soul. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her father, George Milton Staley, Sr., Columbus, GA; mother, Lois Webb Staley, Columbus, GA; brother, George Milton Staley, Jr., Columbus, GA; her loving husband, Lt. Col. Lee J. Lockwood, Baton Rouge, LA; and her eldest daughter, Carol Lois, also of Baton Rouge, LA.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Lee Kogel, Baton Rouge, LA; her cousin and husband, Joan Lee and Larry Jones, Columbus, GA; sister-in-law, Gail Staley, Columbus, GA; and her daughters, Beverly and Robin. She is also survived by her nephew, Joey Staley, Nashville, TN; another sister-in-law, Elois Lockwood, Baton Rouge, LA; and her children, Terri Lockwood, Bill and Debra Lockwood, and Oscar and Cathy Broussard, all of Baton Rouge, LA.
She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Jason Ferree Burks and Catherine King of Burbank, CA, Amber Lee Beall, Baton Rouge, LA, Kristopher Shawn Kogel and his wife, Rhanda Elizabeth, both of Baton Rouge, LA. Nana is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Kyle Ferree Burks and wife Mary Claire, Callan Ray Cubbage, Avynn Lee Cubbage, (her namesake) Jo Elizabeth Kogel, Kru Lockwood Kogel, Oliver Shawn Kogel, and lastly her great-great-grandson, Lawson Ferree Burks, all of Baton Rouge, LA. We all love you dearly our precious Nana, 4.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Resthaven Funeral Home beginning at 1:30 PM until services at 2:30 PM. Burial to follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
