Mary Longcore Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 23, 2023.
On August 22, 2023 Mary Elaine Longcore (Wolff) passed away surrounded by family, on her beloved Grandma Coon's riverside property at the age of 62.
Mary is survived by her siblings, Linda Clark, Cindy Hughes, Laurie Cunningham, Robi Anderson, and John Wolff, her children Christine and Whitney, daughter in law Jenn, grandchild Weylin (True) and former husband Wayne Longcore. She was preceded in death by her mother Inez Azella Wolff, father Robert Marlin Wolff, and companion Dr. James G Morgan.
Born June 12, 1961 in Fremont, Michigan, Mary made many countryside memories with her sisters and best friend/cousin Debb (Hibbs). Marrying her highschool sweetheart, Wayne, Mary left the family farm for college before relocating to New York. While raising two children they moved to Germany and traveled the globe, before returning to Michigan. Divorce set Mary on a path to settle in Okemos Michigan, her home base for continued travels and where she met her late companion, Jim, at the Michigan Athletic Club. They shared a passion for healthy living, and Jim inspired her love of running with his ever-present optimism.
In the spring of 1996 Mary graduated from Michigan State University, and began her career of technical instruction, translation, and documentation. She finished out her role on the health team at Michigan State University, but not before having articles published in Michigan Runner, Runner's World, and Hope magazines.
Mary loved crocheting from a young age, and many loved ones received her handmade baby, and/or graduation blankets. She played piano with grace from a young age until her last days. Those who knew Mary can testify that she remembered everyone, spending hours telling of the victories and accomplishments of others, even those who would never know her name. Her warm heart and caring, generous and thoughtful nature touched many souls.
Diagnosed with a rare and incurable form of cancer, Mary fought hard for many years, knowing she would never ring the cancer victory bell here on Earth but with her family by her side. Through it all she held faith in Christ, who rang that victory bell for her in heaven.
In her final wishes Mary requested that blood or platelet donations be given in memory through the Red Cross or similar, local service. Private family services to be announced at a future date.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mary! Although I met her in my younger years at a family reunion, I got to know her while working at MSU. She was such a neat lady with so much heart! She was an amazing listener and always had a smile. I will remember fondly the times I met with her at the local bookstore to talk over coffee about how she was doing. She faced her illness with grace and strength. The earth lost a beautiful soul yesterday. Heather Spotts
