Mary F. Lowery

Mary Fahnestock Lowery of Winchester died Friday, February 27, 2026. She was born May 31, 1934, in Frederick County, VA; the daughter of Rev. Cephas and Sallie Butler Fahnestock. Mary was a 1952 graduate of James Wood High School where she met her husband, David Carleton Lowery. They were married on September 20, 1953. He preceded her in death on April 19, 2008.

She was a member of Calvary Covenant Brethren Church. Mary served as Sunday School teacher, Chairman of the Worship Commission, Nurture Commission, and Education Commission, served on the church board, and as Sunday School Superintendent. She was the oldest member of the Senior Choir singing for 60 years. Mary sang duets with her husband, in the Ladies Chorus, mixed quartet and directed the Primary Choir for eight years. She was also a Youth Counselor with her husband for eight years.

For many years, Mary was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper at several local businesses. After retiring, she volunteered at the Winchester Medical Center in AM Admissions for eight years. She was a member of the Winchester Medical Center Auxiliary.

Mary is survived by three daughters, Stephanie Elaine Fincham of Stephens City, Marlene Anita Davis of Bunker Hill, WV, and Janine Faith Juergens of Winchester; five grandchildren, David Michael Fincham of Round Hill, VA, Bethany Kate Fincham of Stephens City, Jonah David Juergens of Bridgewater, VA, John Marshall Juergens of Winchester, and Katie Janette Davis of Bunker Hill, WV; six great grandchildren, Gavin Fincham and Avic Fincham both of Augusta, WV, Logan Nesselrodt of Stephens City, Jezlin Fincham, Eli Guzman, and Matteo Fincham all of Round Hill, VA; and three great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Daniel, Randolph, Paul, Reuben, Robert, Ray, and David Fahnestock; and four sisters, Frances Luttrell, Margaret Childs, Dorothy Carper, Betty Hardesty; and a half sister, Isabella Haines Yeakley.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Calvary Covenant Brethren Church, 578 Front Royal Pike, Winchester, with Pastor Charlie Estep and Pastor Jonathan Martino officiating. Burial will be private in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be James Brown, Tom Davis, Tim Juergens, Michael Fincham, Jonah Juergens, and Marshall Juergens.
