Mary Meier Obituary

Mary Lou Meier

MARY LOU MEIER, 93, the beloved wife of Lester (d) and dedicated mother of four, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in Perrysburg, Ohio. Mary was born in Norwalk, Ohio, on June 4, 1932, to Gladys Elizabeth Steele Klebold and William Klebold, of Columbus, Ohio.

During her final days at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg, Mary was embraced by the presence of her loved ones. She took special joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her house brimmed with cheerful laughter, delicious pumpkin pie, and shelves packed with photo albums celebrating family memories. Mary was legendary at hosting and organizing family reunions throughout the years to preserve and strengthen family bonds.

Mary's husband, Les, to whom she was married for 74 years, passed away on June 6, 2025. Mary was also predeceased by her brother, Sam Klebold; and sister, Catherine Klebold Wright. She is survived by her brother, Tom Klebold; her daughters, Linda Simmons (Jack), Eileen Stamper (Bart), Cynthia Dingman, and Laurie Bauer (Doug); as well as eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

After Mary graduated from Clay High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Lester Bernard Meier, who thought she would make a good farmer's wife. Mary devoted herself to making sure her family and friends felt cherished and appreciated. Les and Mary were long-time members of Zoar Lutheran Church in Perrysburg.

Prior to relocating to Colorado with Les in 1970, Mary worked at Bowling Green State University as an executive assistant. In Colorado, she spent many years serving as the Benefits Administrator at Stone and Webster Engineering. Fueled by her life-long love of learning, she later graduated with a bachelor's degree from University of Colorado and became a successful Certified Financial Planner. Mary and Les enjoyed travel and visited China, France, and Switzerland, and explored nearly every state in the U.S. They were members of Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lakewood, Colorado, where Mary resumed teaching Sunday School.

After retirement, Mary and Les moved back to Ohio to their hometown of Perrysburg. In 2021 they took up residence at StoryPoint in Waterville, where they enjoyed the benefits of independent living.

A memorial service is scheduled for June 6, 2026, at Zoar Lutheran Church in Perrysburg, Ohio. Instead of sending flowers, the family asks that donations be directed to Zoar Lutheran Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Yesterday

Mrs. Meier was one of my favorite Sunday School teachers at Zoar. Such a sweet gentle lady.
Mr. and Mrs. Meier would stop in and chat while buying produce from us at the Perrysburg Farmers Market.
An exceptional couple. They will be missed by many.
