Mary Ann Melo



Mary Ann Melo, 90, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 4, 2023, with her loving children at her side. She was born on Wednesday, July 20, 1932, in Fort Sumner, New Mexico, to Jacobo and Lala Mares.

Mary Ann moved to Albuquerque in 1949, where she graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1950. She also attended Brown's Business College in Albuquerque, which helped her begin her career at Sandia National Laboratories, where she worked for 40 years before retiring in 1993.

Mary Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Jacobo and Lala Mares; her sister, Ida Thornburg; and her beloved husband of 65 years, Roman, whom she missed dearly.

Mary Ann is survived by her children, Ernest (Paula) Melo, and Stephanie (Patrick) Guerrera; grandchildren, Jacob, Claire, and Andrea Melo and Anthony and Steven Guerrera. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces as well as her very good friends whom she would visit with regularly over the phone.

Mary Ann was a parishioner at The Church of the Ascension. She enjoyed attending Mass weekly until it grew too difficult. She would then participate at home viewing The Sunday Mass online.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary following at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 10:00 am. Both services will be at The Church of the Ascension, 2150 Raymac Road SW. Ennichement will immediately follow the Mass at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
