Mary Meyer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Farber & Otteman Funeral Homes - Lake View on Jan. 9, 2026.
Mary Meyer, age 75 of Lake View, IA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, IA.

Mary Kathleen Meyer was born on February 22, 1950, to parents Donald and Velma (Peters) Meyer at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA. She grew up with her two siblings, Marc and Marsha, on a farm just east of Lake View. Mary attended Lake View-Auburn School in Lake View, graduating in 1968.

After graduation, she attended business school in Omaha, NE, obtaining her Associate's Degree in Business. She then went to work for an insurance company in Omaha before moving to the east coast. Mary returned to Iowa and worked for several years at Robert's Dairy in Des Moines, IA, and then at Sammons from which she retired in 2015.

Mary was a faithful member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View, where she was both baptized and confirmed. She loved the outdoors and could be seen buzzing all around town on her golf cart. She went to morning coffee with friends several days a week as well as 60+ meals downtown for lunch which she always enjoyed. After her mother passed and her dad moved to the nursing home, Mary made sure to get him out and about on the golf cart with her and it typically involved getting Ice Cream at Kathy's Korner.

Mary adored animals since she was just little and enjoyed many pets throughout her years on the farm. She was a hard worker and helped do whatever needed done on the farm. She had a deep love for country music and at one time cheered for the Minnesota Vikings. It must be mentioned that she adored her nieces and nephews, not having children of her own, she loved and was proud of all six of them. Her family will miss her dearly as will all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her brother, Marc (Luanne) Meyer of West Des Moines, IA, and Marsha (Bill) Sample of Lake View, IA; nieces and nephews: Matthew (Eva) Meyer, Andrea Meyer, Jessica (Bryan) Curry, Joanna (Martin) Karumba, Brad Sample, and Theresa Sample; other extended family members and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Velma Meyer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the family as they plan to donate to Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View.
