On Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Bergman, Mary Lucy McFarlan Milam, 79, left her life here on earth and went to her Heavenly home to be with her Savior, her husband, and other family members that she longed to be with.
Lucy was born at home, about three blocks from the ocean, on November 10, 1946, at Horseshoe Beach, Florida, to Melvin and Dorothy Mae Landrum McFarlan. Lucy's parents moved their family back to Arkansas, where her dad was from, when Lucy was about 10 years old. She remained in Arkansas and called it her home. In the summer of 1962, at the age of 15, Lucy met a young man that she really took a liking to. After dating for two years, she married that man who was the love of her life, Gary Dwayne Milam, on September 4, 1964. They lacked just 35 days being married 57 years when Gary passed away on July 30, 2021. Together they made a lifetime of great memories. They were a close-knit couple. Lucy never remarried because she felt like she could never replace Gary's love for her. They had no children, but Jerry and Janet Canady, named Gary and Lucy as God Parents to their three boys, Allen, Jason, and Seth Canady. They loved helping raise these boys. From these boys and their wives, Allen (Candy), Jason (Sabrina), and Seth (Chelsea), Gary and Lucy (known as Papa Gary and Mama Lucy) have nine grandchildren, Lexi, Sadie, Aubrey, Kenah, Gunner, JoHannah, Malorie, Gene, Jessie, and one great-grandson, Bodhi.
Lucy attended the Red Oak Baptist Church. She was a Christian and she believed that accepting the Lord as her Savior was the greatest thing that ever happened to her. She loved gospel music. Lucy retired from Levi Strauss after working 35 years. After retirement, she worked part-time for Regions Bank for a short time. Lucy loved to cook, baking cakes, pies, and any kind of dessert was her favorite. She always had a dessert ready when someone came by to visit. Lucy was a seamstress and loved sewing for herself, Gary, and the grandchildren. She loved making Creative Memories picture albums. She took pride in her flower beds. She was an avid Elvis fan. In her younger years of the 70's, she showed Fox Trotting horses along with her husband. They enjoyed showing and did win several trophies including high point trophies of the year. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her sister, Melva McFarlan.
Lucy is survived by a sister-in-law, Geraldine Milam of Harrison; her God Sons; her grandchildren; and a very special friend, Joyce Turney.
