Mary Miller-Bergman Obituary

Published by Central Chapel Funeral & Cremation Southwest on Oct. 3, 2019.
Mary Beth Miller-Bergman August 20, 1962 - October 3, 2019 Mary Miller-Bergman, with her gracious and compassionate spirit, had the effect of making people feel lighter, seen and known. Although she was an astute financial professional, her unwavering commitment and deep devotion to her family and her strong conviction that all people matter, will be her most beautiful legacy. Mary Miller-Bergman was born in Moorhead, Minnesota to Gerald and Barbara Johanneson. Growing up, she called many places home, including Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, Colorado and Illinois. She was an identical twin and had three brothers. Mary was a lover of ballet, jazz and tap dancing growing up, dedicated to academics, and captain of her cheerleading team. She attended the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, where she earned a B.S. degree in Finance and achieved high honors. There she met her first husband Todd Miller, with whom she had three children, Kiley, Jenna and Cameron. They raised their children together in Wilmette and Winnetka, Illinois. After earning her undergraduate degree, Mary worked in litigation consulting. She then went on to earn an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago, and from there took a job at NutraSweet in marketing and corporate strategy. In 2012, Mary became a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and founded Hanover Hill Wealth Advisors, an independent wealth management firm. She served for several years on the board of the Juvenile Protective Association in Chicago. Mary met Jud Bergman, Chairman and CEO of Envestnet, in 2006, and the two married in 2010. Their first date was on Jud's sailboat, and they quickly fell in love. Mary and Jud were partners in every sense, connected through their careers and through their shared passion to enjoy the beautiful details of life. Mary lived an extraordinary life. She felt most joyful picking fresh produce from the garden in Barrington, going through the Chicago locks on the river, and taking long bike rides with family. She was particularly moved by art, attending many galleries and exhibits, and acquiring a unique collection. She had impeccable taste and style and an ability to curate beautiful moments, with a keen eye for intimate details. Mary was predeceased by her mother Barbara Drobick and is survived by her father and stepmother, Gerald and Gayle Johanneson, three children: Kiley, Jenna and Cameron Miller, four stepchildren: Elliot, Elise, Natalie and Bennet Bergman, three grandchildren: Lewis, Malin and Cora Moore, twin sister Susan Johanneson Packard, brothers John (Denise) Johanneson, Joel Johanneson, and Christian (Alice) Johanneson, uncles Thomas and David Johanneson, and eleven nieces and nephews.
