Mary Elizabeth Moore, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, at Life Care Center in Lawrenceville, Georgia, at the age of 92.
She was born in Hertford, North Carolina, on March 15, 1933, to the late Dallas Edward Rountree and Genieve Rountree. At birth she was lovingly named after her maternal grandmother, Mary Johnson Harris.
Mary was the eldest of six children. From the young age of 13, she displayed great strength, love and compassion, stepping into a caretaker's role when her mother became chronically ill. Her resilience shaped a lifetime of love, faith, and perseverance.
At seventeen, Mary met and married the love of her life, William David Moore Jr., while attending his father's Baptist church. Together they built a family, and in 1961 moved from North Carolina to New York, seeking a better life. There, they started to raise their four children – teaching them the values of hard work, independence, and faith. After the separation of William and Mary, Mary continued to rear her children while going back to school, obtaining her G.E.D., and a position in a beauty product company.
A devoted worker, Mary found her calling with the beauty company of Fuller Products (later named Dudley's Products) – where she excelled as one of their top sales-persons for over 40 years. Her warm spirit, determination, and love for people made her a shining star in her field of beauty consultant/sales-person. She was one of the few people on earth who truly loved her chosen work and went about it with unwavering passion every day until retirement.
In retirement, Mary reconnected with her deep faith as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, worshipping with the Jamaica, Queens New York Kingdom Hall, and later the Singleton Road Kingdom Hall in Norcross, Georgia. She was a devout servant, and an avid reader of the Watchtower and the Awake! magazines. From these teachings, she was a source of encouragement to all who knew her.
Mary often said, "Been There, Done That", encouraging and ensuring all that her strong advice to modern day problems could be trusted.
Her life was a truthful testament to strength, grace, and unconditional love. She is survived by her three devoted children, Alice Boswell (aka Dee) of Lilburn, Georgia, Girleene Moore of Queens, New York, William Ray Moore (aka Wood) and wife Robin of Brooklyn, New York; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren from blended families, a host of loving nieces, nephews and their children and distant cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved youngest son, Edward Darnell Moore (aka Darnell); and all of her five siblings: Paul, Fred, twins Lauretta and Louetta, and the baby, Willaetta; and all aunts and uncles.
A Memorial Service celebrating Mary's life will be held 11 o'clock, Saturday, November 15, 2025, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home, Lithonia. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the
American Diabetes Association, diabetes.org, in her memory.
Her absence will be deeply felt, but her memory will live on through those she loved. Please share your stories, photos, memories as a source of comfort for the family during this time.
